A development at the corner of MLK Jr. Drive and Hill Street in downtown Atlanta, Fulton County, required a fill retaining wall along the north side of the property adjacent a CSX rail bridge abutment.

 A development at the corner of MLK Jr. Drive and Hill Street in downtown Atlanta, Fulton County, required a fill retaining wall along the north side of the property adjacent a CSX rail bridge abutment. The maximum wall height is 21 feet with a proposed four-story building surcharge load 16 ½’ behind the wall face. Below are photos of the construction and completed retaining wall. 

 No unanticipated movement has been observed. Survey monitoring was started upon wall completion to check movement over time. The construction of the Optima reinforcement rod MSE structure took approximately one week to complete. No problems or issues were experienced by the retaining wall contractor. The proposed building behind began construction on April 28th, 2022.
