When Earth Wall Products acquired a 70 year old steel fabrication facility in Smyrna, Georgia, enlarging an existing truck dock as well as creating new additional docks was required to meet the needs of a growing business. The move allowed not only the relocation of operations personnel offices and existing rubber liner production operations to now include steel molds and accessories / components fabrication and production, all in one large facility.
The choice of retaining wall type was the new Optima MSE retaining wall system that had been in Research and Development for over two years. Cobb County, the local municipality reviewing and permitting the retaining wall construction approved the demonstration MSE retaining wall.
Construction of the Optima demonstration wall used steel (reinforcement rod) in one section and polymer (reinforcement belt) in a separate adjacent section. The retaining wall had a maximum height of 7 ½ feet and the experience provided a great way to work out issues or concerns prior to entering the MSE retaining wall market.
The Optima demonstration wall construction went very well with no issues or problems. The completed structure has experienced no post construction movement and maintains the original completed construction alignment.
