Georgia

Project Overview

32.5 ft. Tall, 432 Ft. Long, 9,108 sq. ft. Face Area

A bridge abutment was needed for Bridgeport access off of Alternate State Route 27 in Newnan, Georgia (Coweta County). The required bridge would run over two CSX rail lines.

Gravix was chosen for this project requiring 32 ft. face height and 40 ft. tall design height (top of leveling pad to roadway grade). It was designed to meet AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) as well as AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) design criteria. The total face area for both bridge abutments was 9,108 sq. ft. with the maximum Gravix stem length being 24 ft.

A unique feature of this project’s design included custom narrower face widths provided to avoid conflict of stems with the bridge piles’ locations.

Over-excavation and replacement of 6 ft. of stone was also required due to a soft foundation. One of the benefits of the Gravix system is the ability to work with difficult circumstances such as around bridge pilings and a soft foundation, which makes this project a great fit for Gravix!
